Blurb

Cika and her family have lived in Planet Starwa ever since she was a child, despite being natives of Planet Kisa. Everything changed when news came that her family would move back to Planet Kisa. Learning a new language, weather, and friends is only the beginning- will she find her new-found home in Planet Kisa? "Where is My Home?" explores the repatriation experience of Third Culture Kids (TCKs), where finding home in their own origin places can become a challenge.

Story Conception

As the story revolves around grief, I used 5 stages of grief as the guiding backbone that fills the story dynamic. The story started by setting in the reality of Cika's situation with school, family, and friends. As her story progresses in her origin country, her grief process started from denial, anger, to bargaining, depression, and ended in acceptance through a time jump, one year later.

I mapped the protagonist's experience dealing with cultural grief, each shown with every aspect of the struggle, such as family, school, friends, weather, and language. Below is the initial brainstorm of Cika's dynamic with friends, family, and herself.

Cika's (protagonist) characterization

Cika's attributes differs from her peers in Planet Starwa. Natives of the planet have gills and live underwater, unlike Cika who comes from land and require an underwater bubble-helmet. Her sharp visual design also contradicts her friends in Starwa. Despite the differences, she feels more at home with her friends in Starwa rather than her home-planet in Kisa.
