Rogue Runner (2023)
Motion Design
A thrilling motion graphic short set in a dystopian future where humans are hunted by hijacked robots, ready to destroy any living creature. Worked with the collaboration of Andrea Gunawidjaja and Avalo Kiteshvara.
Research & Pre-Production Process
Exploration of visual development was initiated according to thriller, sci-fi, and dystopian themes. By finding the common threads between these genres, the team decides on incorporating illustrations and photography, for backgrounds and human subjects respectively, and later composited into ready-made layers for animation in After Effects.
The storyboarding process takes into account photography angles of human subjects, parallax movement in backgrounds, and the allocation of music and sound effects. Storyboard was constructed to fit the one-minute duration, hence the showcased straightforward scenes.
After the collaborative storyboarding process, overall visual development (by Saffanah) were done by attempting different color palettes and overall compositions. Animatics were compiled (by Avalo) and later aligned with custom sound design and soundtrack (by Andrea).

Production
Later, all three members of the team were photographed to be used as visual assets of human subjects. Angles and poses were all considered.
With each photographs turned into visual assets, all elements were combined to create the master reference. It ensures consistency between scenes, compositions, movement, lighting, and colors.
